Symptoms and signs of prostate cancer
Early prostate cancer often causes no symptoms. Many cases are detected during routine screening, such as a PSA blood test and a prostate exam. When symptoms do appear, they can also be linked to other conditions, such as an enlarged prostate or urinary infections.
If you notice prostate-related symptoms that persist, worsen, or feel unusual for you, it is best to get them evaluated.
- Difficulty starting urination or a weak urine stream
- Frequent urination, especially at night
- Sudden urge to urinate
- Pain or burning while urinating
- Blood in urine or semen
- Pain in the lower back, hips, or pelvis
- Bone pain (a sign cancer has spread)

Frequently asked questions
Can prostate cancer be prevented?
There is no sure way to prevent it, but a healthy diet, regular exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight may reduce risk.
Is prostate cancer curable?
Many prostate cancers are highly treatable when detected early and localised, but curability depends on stage and risk profile.
How long does recovery take after surgery?
Most men recover within 4 to 6 weeks, though full recovery may take longer.
Does prostate cancer always need surgery?
No. Surgery is one option, but many cases are managed with close monitoring, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, or other procedures, depending on the stage and risk level.
