Retroperitoneal tumours develop behind the bowel, close to the kidneys and major blood vessels of the abdomen. Surgery can be challenging because these tumours may involve vital structures. Some tumours may invade nearby blood vessels, requiring removal and reconstruction to restore blood flow. Vascular Reconstruction

Open Surgery
May be required when tumour size, location, or involvement of vital structures makes minimally invasive surgery unsuitable.
Your surgical team will assess the tumour, review imaging, explain the planned approach, and prepare you for surgery based on its location and complexity.
During surgery, the tumour is carefully separated from surrounding structures and removed with appropriate margins. If major blood vessels are involved, they may also need to be removed and reconstructed.
General anaesthesia is used, so you remain asleep and comfortable throughout the procedure.
